I had a great day out at the David Stanley
auction in February and picked up a few interesting items.
One of the dealers had saved these chisels for me as he knew I would appreciate
The top two are something really special. They have the makers mark of 18th
century edge tool maker, Robert Moore of Birmingham.
It's difficult to put a date to these but the mark is usually found on planes
dating before 1750. I have many plane irons by this maker, but I have never
found a chisel by him.
The top chisel in the picture is possibly the biggest mortice chisel I have ever
seen. The blade is about 9" long.
